Victoria's Thoughts
Marissa Sparks is a Hollywood starlet whose career is almost over because of her private life. She does not study her lines, her mother and sister spend her money faster than she can make it. Marissa seems to party all night, drink to excess, and take drugs. What its clear to see right from the start is that Marissa is not happy but unable to make any changes because she just does not know how to start or really where.
Joel Sutherland is Marissa’s co-star and one of the movie’s producers. He wanted Marissa for this movie and stands to lose a lot of money if it does not get completed. Joel takes Marissa by the hand and guides her, by giving Marissa some much needed love, discipline, and guidance.
The connection between Marissa and Joel is intense. I enjoyed seeing how much Marissa “grows-up” as she is allowed to be “little” for Joel. She enjoys the discipline that he brings her. What I enjoyed the more however, was Joel not wanting to over control her. He walked a very fine line that many I think would cross not even realizing it. He did not dictate to Marissa how she needed to change her life but allowed her to come to grips with the changes slowly.
I found this book well written with a unique plot. The main characters and the secondary characters were fascinating. The ending was predictable, but this book is not really about the end but the journey to the end and how Marissa grows up. Overall, this was a very intriguing book and I hope to see these characters again in the future.
