Yikes. So we all knew that Diana was playing with fire. They’ve made that painfully clear in the last few issues. Telling us again and again that magic has a cost, that Diana doesn’t understand magic, and that she’s underestimating the danger of what she’s doing and the threat of the villain they’re up against.
All that buildup had to go somewhere. And apparently it was right to this issue. I’ll admit that this issue was less intimidating, in that I didn’t feel as creeped out as before (the foreshadowing done in previous issues was wonderfully done), but the fight scenes here were well done.
Not all of the characters got a moment to shine here, in fact some of them sort of got put down, or at least it felt like it to me. I’m expecting we’ll see more of the magic users getting to show off in the next issue, but I could be wrong.
I am happy that all of the building up that they’ve been doing actually went somewhere. Too frequently it feels like they build this tension only to have it fall flat when the real antagonist is shown for the first time. That isn’t the case here.
