Chickenology is a fun and information rich homage to the humble chicken. Due out 2nd Feb 2021 from Princeton Architectural Press, it's 80 pages and will be available in hardcover format.
This is a whimsically illustrated and well presented fact based book with an impressive amount of information. Aimed at young readers, the text is easy to understand. The short informational subchapters are arranged thematically: general information, anatomy and physiology, eggs, human/chicken interaction, and some breed info (with illustrations).
For a very short book, there's a lot of info packed into the pages. The illustrations are colorful and appealing. Most of the pages contain small snippets of info in easily digestible capsule illustrations. Though the text is simple and easy to read, the authors have managed to provide correct anatomic descriptions and terms as well as proper nomenclature for the species. The book doesn't include an index, but it's a short book and the table of contents is complete and with chapter descriptions. There are no photographs included, but the illustrations are well done and clear.
This would be a superlative selection for school/classroom use, home and remote schooling situations, scouting or activities groups, as well as animal keen youngsters. Nine year old me would've absolutely loved this book.
Five stars. Simple and fun.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
