I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Cocoa Curses by Erin Johnson is a cute holiday paranormal cozy mystery set in an adorable holiday town. Literally, it's near the North Pole.

Can Rudie Hollybrook keep a ghost at bay and solve the murder before Christmas day?

Rudie Hollybrook

We follow Rudie Hollybrook as she is trying to solve a mystery and trying to keep Hayley, her nemesis, from hating her even more. Rudie is our point-of-view character, and I loved her from the beginning. She is such a great person to follow and to see her be with her crush. Holiday Haven is such a cute town, and most of the people that Rudie runs into while working at the town are pretty cool. The only person who isn't is Hayley, and the whole reason why she doesn't like Rudie is petty. As a person, Rudie is definitely a people pleaser and wants to try her best at fitting into the town but doesn't think that anyone there likes her. Her growth in the novel is fantastic, and I liked every minute of it.

The Mystery

Rudie Hollybrook is tasked by the recently deceased Phillipa Lightstep, co-chairwoman of Santa's Little Helpers, to put her killer behind bars. A big task to do without any hints from the deceased on where to start. Okay, let alone with what she wanted Rudie to tell her only granddaughter Noelle the next day. So, Rudie sets off to figure it out. I loved how she goes about interviewing some people, especially with her crush, who happens to be a newspaper reporter. I thought I knew who did it, but I didn't get the why until later on.
Five Stars

Cocoa Curses by Erin Johnson is such a fun read that will have you laughing out loud at some of the zany parts of it. One of the many things that I like about Ms. Johnson's books is that the characters always have such funny sayings. Like in this one, there were many "Dear Santa" and some others that I'm forgetting about, but they are super cute. I am giving it five stars and recommending it to anyone that loves reading holiday paranormal cozy mysteries.
