Miss Mayhem by Rachel Hawkins

Miss Mayhem (Rebel Belle, #2)

by Rachel Hawkins

New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins is sassier than ever in this page-turning follow up to Rebel Belle, perfect for fans of Buffy and Veronica Mars.

Life is almost back to normal for Harper Price. The Ephors have been silent after their deadly attack at Cotillion months ago, and best friend Bee has returned after a mysterious disappearance. Now Harper can return her focus to the important things in life: school, canoodling with David, her nemesis-turned-ward-slash-boyfie, and even competing in the Miss Pine Grove pageant.

Unfortunately, supernatural chores are never done. The Ephors have decided they’d rather train David than kill him.  The catch: Harper has to come along for the ride, but she can’t stay David’s Paladin unless she undergoes an an ancient trial that will either kill her . . .  or make her more powerful than ever.

Miss Mayhem by Rachel Hawkins picks up right where Rebel Belle left off. Bee is still missing and we don't know what's happened to her. Ryan and Harper are working together to try and keep David safe.

I feel so much for Harper in this book. She is David's girlfriend and paladin which means that she now has instincts to keep him safe from all harm. Harper already has control issues. I know how she feels, unfortunately. I also know she can't help it. Adding in those super power instincts only made things worse for her. Plus she has to pass some ancient paladin test where she will either die or prove her paladinian prowess.

In the first book, we're busy learning who is who and what parts they play. In Miss Mayhem we are learning what the characters new roles mean for them. We also learn more about the mysterious Ephors. Much like Rebel Belle, Miss Mayhem ends on a cliffhanger. I have no idea how Hawkins is going to finish this series off but I am excited to see how it plays out.
