by E L James

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

E L James revisits the world of Fifty Shades with a deeper and darker take on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the globe.

Christian Grey exercises control in all things; his world is neat, disciplined, and utterly empty—until the day that Anastasia Steele falls into his office, in a tangle of shapely limbs and tumbling brown hair. He tries to forget her, but instead is swept up in a storm of emotion he cannot comprehend and cannot resist. Unlike any woman he has known before, shy, unworldly Ana seems to see right through him—past the business prodigy and the penthouse lifestyle to Christian’s cold, wounded heart.

Will being with Ana dispel the horrors of his childhood that haunt Christian every night? Or will his dark sexual desires, his compulsion to control, and the self-loathing that fills his soul drive this girl away and destroy the fragile hope she offers him?
This book is intended for mature audiences.

Well no wonder Christian's 50 shades Mrs Robinson...

I'm going to keep my review for Grey fairly short, after all we've been here before. I started this on Friday night with a glass of wine in my hand and a smirk on my face. Yes, it was a little more expensive than what I normally pay for an e-book and it was a story that I knew the ending to already. All I wanted was a few questions answered, so in essence I got exactly what I wanted...inside Christian's head.

The storyline was the same (surprise, surprise) and the characters were the same (surprise, surprise), but it all felt a little different. Christian sees people in a way Anastasia doesn't. He is cynical, judgemental and abrupt. He pays people to do as he says and doesn't care what they think...until he meets and starts to care about Ana. The changes are slight as the story progresses, a thank you here and a thoughtful gesture there. We see this man with a stoic facade that shelters his vulnerable thoughts. At first he thinks it's just a matter of getting Ana to sign the contract, but she questions everything and some things he's not ready or willing to discuss. He's never felt this way before and doesn't handle the changes well. He can't comprehend why Ana can't just do as he says. He doesn't see it as him being bossy, he sees it as him trying to protect and look after her.

The biggest draw for me in reading this story was finding out a little more about Mrs Robinson/Elena. I didn't think it would be possible but I hate her character even more now. Christian makes decisions based on what Mrs Robinson would think or say. Would Mrs Robinson approve of Ana? Should he introduce them? Should he drop everything to have dinner with Mrs Robinson? Would Mrs Robinson approve of the way he was handling things? If Christian did what Ana just did, what would Mrs Robinson's punishments be? It was all just a little creepy and as we know not resolved in the first book. Mrs Robinson still treats him as her submissive to some extent.

Grey gave me some answers to questions I had and left me still wanting to know more. The sex scenes were hot, the thought processes interesting and Christian's protection of his submissive's past and present very evident. It wasn't a perfect read, but I still enjoyed it. I will definitely be going back for more.
