This book was really not my cup of tea. It dealt with traumatic issues such as murder, rape, and abuse. I’ve noticed many New Adult contemporary romance novels deal with such issues, and I get tired of reading about it.
However, it wasn’t necessarily a bad read. I really enjoyed that one of the main characters had a disability (that sounds bad, doesn’t it?). Not that I enjoyed the disability itself, but that the book portrayed someone struggling to live with a disability. The romance was layered and enjoyable between the characters. My biggest disappointment was the antagonists were very one dimensional. Their actions were never really explained well.
As an aside, this book contained several sections with explicit sexual content. If you’re not interested in reading in-depth sex scenes, you may want to skip it.
tl;dr If you're willing to endure yet another New Adult novel based off trauma, then at least this book has a good slow burn romance built upon friendship.
