This is the first in the Dirk Pitt series although not the first published. I've read many of the series before and decided it was time to start at the beginning and work my way through them from start to finish.

Published later because Clive Cussler was unsure about the quality of it, it a story of some of what makes Dirk Pitt into the man he is in later books.

A fantastic story, with strong characters and a good introduction to the series. Definitely not a book to be ashamed of, it's actually a bit better than some of his slightly later books, before they pick up in strength again.
