Slayer by Kiersten White

Slayer (Slayer, #1)

by Kiersten White

Into every generation a Slayer is born…

Nina and her twin sister, Artemis, are far from normal. It’s hard to be when you grow up at the Watcher’s Academy, which is a bit different from your average boarding school. Here teens are trained as guides for Slayers—girls gifted with supernatural strength to fight the forces of darkness. But while Nina’s mother is a prominent member of the Watcher’s Council, Nina has never embraced the violent Watcher lifestyle. Instead she follows her instincts to heal, carving out a place for herself as the school medic.

Until the day Nina’s life changes forever.

Thanks...

I only sort of watched Buffy when it was on TV. I think, really, that I have more appreciation for it as an adult than I used to. So I was more curious about this than anything, simply because it can be hard to do justice to a world that has so many die-hard fans. I wanted to see if this worked. And - it does. The story is fun and interesting, though I will say I saw at least one of the "twists" before it happened. But even with that, I still wanted to keep reading because I decided that I really like the characters and the story. I will definitely be reading book 2 when it comes out, and in the meantime - I feel a burning need to watch some Buffy.
