You did it again, K.F. Breene!
I've been a fan of K.F. Breene since her Darkness series, I fell in love with each of those characters. So I was quite excited when I found out about her new series, Finding Paradise. I already knew that I'd take quickly to this one and sure enough, it didn't take long. I was only a couple of chapters in and I was hooked!
Millicent ... Millie ... Cupcakes ... Baby Cakes ... Ryker, you're hilarious with the pet names for Millicent. Where to begin? Millicent, she's definitely one of a kind in this series that way in the future. In many eyes, she's perfect, beautiful, extremely smart and she can do some pretty amazing things that you'll just have to find out for yourself.
She gets a rare chance to breed a child because of who she is, which is just another thing to wrap your mind around. Living in a world where you need permission to breed. But once the child is born, after a year, Millie will have to say her good-byes to her daughter. Like a mother should, she becomes attached to her daughter and refuses to let her go. Millie won't let that happen and she's getting ready to run, with her daughter in hand.
With her daughter, Marie, being made from super genetics, she has a special ability that hasn't been seen. And because of that, she's definitely someone a "corporate-controlled future" doesn't want to let go of. It makes you wonder what extent this world would go to, to keep Marie.
And then there's hilarious, rule-breaker and exceedingly handsome, Ryker! Breene, I love the men in your books! Like Millicent, he's got it all too. The head of the security and always seems to be where Millie is. But when it comes the time for Millie to follow her plan of escaping, there's no way that Ryker will let her do it on her own. He'll do anything to protect them both. Aww ... swooning.
And that's when the exciting and action-filled journey begins ... with an unlikely "friend" in tow, which you all will love because he just adds a whole different level of humor to the story. He's definitely a "Charles" (from the Darkness series) in this one.
They have so much to get through to reach their "paradise". But how long will it last? Can't be safe forever ...
I'm so eager to read the next one, which we already have a synopsis for! This was such a great start to this series and I loved how Breene is bringing us a different world to think about, where society relies heavily on science and technology. And the lack of humanity. It looks like a bleak world, but for them I think the future will hold plenty once they get through it all. I look forward to reading more about what will happen to Millie, Ryker and Marie's utopia. I'm happy to have found a new series that I'll love!
