How can you not love the Malone brothers and I just love Grayson ... but are we really surprised about that fact? Ever since the first one in this series was released, I've been eager to know the story of the single dad that is Grayson Malone. Good luck trying to resist this man because Sydney sure couldn't ;-) It definitely wasn't the easiest road for them, but I rather enjoyed reading their story.
It was tough for me to really like Sydney in the beginning, definitely not someone I'd see myself being friends with. Not like Grayson was a definition of an angel at times. But Bromberg did a great job setting up her persona clearly in the beginning, from being such an unlikeable character to eventually someone we can understand and adore in the end. Sydney was a very selfish and shallow person, making one too many mistakes and needs to prove now more than ever that she has grown past her mistakes and achieve her dreams. To work at her dream job with a high fashion magazine, she needs to prove herself to her dad and it's her last chance to do so. He decides to send her back to her roots to work for a family magazine that is featuring one of the "hottest" events in that town ... Hot Dads, anyone? And who better to be a contestant than grumpy and sexy, Grayson. And it's an even better story when he had no idea of being entered and just refuses to entertain the idea.
Despite all of Sydney's beauty, it brings up horrible emotions for Grayson. Reminding him of his ex who was selfish enough to not only leave him, but their adorable son, Luke. For most of the book, there's no redemption for Sydney, even though she truly never did anything to Grayson. Besides all the heartbreak Grayson endures mainly with his son, he has built up so many walls and refuses to give in, even if he finds himself so wildly attracted to Sydney. His emotional scars run deep, so you'll be rooting for Sydney to get his past his steel walls.
There were just so many elements that I loved about Sydney and Grayson's story. I loved watching her character grow, she constantly owned up to her mistakes really taking on that she needed to prove herself not only to her father and everyone around her but to herself as well. And as hard as it was for Grayson to see that and fought it (stubbornly might I add), deep down he knew that she wasn't the same girl he met in high school. I understood his fear, it's not easy to introduce another woman into your child's life especially when there's no knowing if there's a future or not. Luke broke my heart sometimes asking about having a new mommy, poor kid.
I loved the slow burn between the both of them, as the anticipation grows, it's sizzling. Worth the Risk pulled up all the angsty-feels, plenty of heated and sexual tension filled arguments; definitely made for a steamy read.
K. Bromberg fans will definitely love this one!
