Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1)

by Laini Taylor

Errand requiring immediate attention. Come.

The note was on vellum, pierced by the talons of the almost-crow that delivered it. Karou read the message. 'He never says please', she sighed, but she gathered up her things.

When Brimstone called, she always came.

In general, Karou has managed to keep her two lives in balance. On the one hand, she's a seventeen-year-old art student in Prague; on the other, errand-girl to a monstrous creature who is the closest thing she has to family. Raised half in our world, half in 'Elsewhere', she has never understood Brimstone's dark work - buying teeth from hunters and murderers - nor how she came into his keeping. She is a secret even to herself, plagued by the sensation that she isn't whole.

Now the doors to Elsewhere are closing, and Karou must choose between the safety of her human life and the dangers of a war-ravaged world that may hold the answers she has always sought.

.....WOAH....what?!?! This book was amazing! i'm having a hard time trying to describe it! the words unique, engrossing, and simply amazing don't do it justice. This book just took my breath away!!
And the writing! Now, I'm not one to really notice the writing (unless it's completely awful or simply amazing). Normally I notice the plot, characters, and pacing. However, in this book, I'd be a fool not to mention the writing! thats how awesome it was!! Laini Taylor's words were beautiful and just flowed together and was like music to my ears! it was simply poetic!
As to the plot? WOAH! this book is completely UNIQUE! in a good way of course! this book does have angels, and while I haven't read to many angel books, I highly doubt any other is like this! and i have never heard of another book about the chimaera! She did an amazing job of world building and I loved how she picked Prague to set the story in. it fit the story perfectly! Honestly, the plot to this book was amazing!
And the characters! I absolutely loved them! Karou was an amazing, kick butt type of gal! I'd totally want her as my friend! and Akiva? How freakin sweet! their relationship is so complicated and amazing and I totally fell in love with both of them!
I definitely recommend this book to everyone! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! :D
