I need to start this review by saying this is not a horror book, despite the title on the front cover. The main character, Adelle, can literally hear demons and sense their cold, dark presence as they surround other humans. She hears the demons say negative things to people about their looks or brains and this is what causes great depression and unhappiness in people.

Adelle has moved to a new state to get away from bullies that made fun of her and her "gift". As she tries to be a loner and stay out of other's way she meets a good looking jock named Levi. One night she hears demons talking about how Levi is going to die and from there she jumps right back into using her gift. This one action leads to all kind of trouble for her and Levi.

The suspense in this story is incredible. I was fascinated with this paranormal YA story and how Adelle didn't actually interact with the demons, but could still help others. I also liked how there was a strong Christian theme with lessons to learn from the story. Some people may be put off by this, but this is something I want my teens reading. This genre of story is so different from Rallison's other stories, but is so well-written and engages you throughout. The romance progresses at a realistic pace and I truly loved both of the main characters. As a warning, there is mild violence, underage drinking and drug use, and mention of previous murders.

The final conflict at the end of the story is so shocking I couldn't believe what I was reading. It was so explosive and full of angst. It was one of those books I was reading while sitting on the edge of the sofa and reading as fast as I could. I was so glad I nominated this book on Kindlescout. It was a great find.
