This cover actually really reminds me of the book which is great! Not enough covers do that, especially lately which all the girls in pretty dress covers.

INITIAL THOUGHTS

I didn’t even read the summary for this book before starting it. I’m really glad I didn’t though because I found myself actually surprised at some things like the use of genies (or Beings in this case).

MY NEW BFF

I’m going to pick Grant as my BFF for this one. I really loved seeing him struggle with human emotions and I thought it was really cool that he had to learn some before moving on. I also really liked the use of letters or memos in this story. It was the one time we could really see into his thoughts and figure out what was happening behind the scenes. His concern for all the humans around him was amazing and I think that’s why I found myself drawn to him. Instead of being the all powerful mythical being, he actually had struggles and had to push through them.

MY CRUSH

I want to say Eli but I found we didn’t see enough of him in this book. There was kind of a love triangle here which I didn’t really appreciate because I found it wasn’t very well done. I’m not going to spoil it for you but you’ll see what happens. Eli was just such a sweet character in general. Instead of judging Lacey he genuinely wants to help her even though they’re just getting to know each other.

WRITING STYLE

I was pleasantly surprised with the writing for this book. The plot wasn’t crazy dramatic but I found it flowed very nicely (minus the weird romance stuff). I enjoyed most of the characters and found them to be very realistic. The only characters I didn’t really click with was Lacey because she drove me insane. She’s one of those people who can’t ask for help and while reading the book I was always thinking about how she would go about doing things with help from her friends. Not necessarily a bad thing but it bothered me.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

I really enjoyed this even after being a little doubtful once I started it. I was skeptical that the whole genie thing would work out in a good way but I’m really glad it did. I found the story to be very realistic because it focuses on the struggles of all the characters instead of their perfect lives. Every character struggled in their own way whether it was Lacey with taking care of her family, or Grant learning human emotions, or Kim with her brain damage. There was probably a lot more tragedy in this book than most normal people had but it was nice to read about how everyone overcame their struggles. I’d recommend this book to everyone for sure!
