This was an intriguing book. It starts off with....something....breaking out of a top secret lab and destroying everyone (and everything) in it. Fast forward 5 years and another lab is created to work on the same experiment. Then the book shifts to follow Sam, a student at the Academy City 676 (used to be Yellowstone National Park). On her way to school one morning, she finds a silver box, that she is oddly attracted to. Then weird things start to happen. Like her and her best friend, Cammie, almost getting kidnapped by slavers. Or the school coming under siege by by 3 separate forces. Or that her best friend, Richard, isn't who he says he is.
I loved the humor!! "OMGWB" aka Oh My George W Bush, The Obama Health and Wellness Center (where scientific experiments, and not the good ones, take place) and the state of Clinton (aka Bill Clinton). Too funny.
The book end rather suddenly but it was a great lead up to the Book#2.
