Claustrophobic, gripping and terrifying, this is a story that will have you on the edge of the seat while you read, and leaving the lights on while you sleep. With the horrific tale of Charles Manx and his Silver Wraith, Joe Hill has established himself as the premiere horror and supernatural thriller writer of his generation.
I decided to keep listening to the audiobook just to see how this story possibly could take 17 hours to tell, and I wish I hadn't bothered. It didn't need to take even half that amount of time. What's worse is the total lack of suspense throughout the novel - any thrills get lost in the characters' unrelenting misogyny. Characters who hate women this much aren't scary, unfortunately, they're just mundane.
