I adore Rystrom Woede.  He once ruled the kingdom of Rothkalinaand before it was taken by Omort. I was intrigued by the saucy Sabine, the Sorceress of Illusions. In a nutshell, Sabine is sent by Omort the Deathless, her evil asshat of a brother to conquer Rydstrom in order to thwart his brother from obtained the sword that could mean his demise.

Oh, my the fun we had in this dark and delicious tale. Sabine sets out to seduce him and gets more than she bargained for. Both have a lot riding on the outcome of events, and yet they are wildly attracted to each other, soulmates if you would.

Their banter, bite and obvious destain for each other complicated by unexpected emotions made for one heck of a listen as these two tried to best the other. I admired both of them and felt their personalities complimented each other. Both have secrets which created conflict, and I loved the way it was revealed. Of course, our beloved Nix was involved. Oh if I could spend an afternoon chatting with this witty seer. Once again she had me a laughing aloud from her thoughts to her interference.

I will warn you that there are bondage and control elements present, not to mention Sabine kidnaps Rystrom. This, however, is war, and both give as good as they get. I felt these elements rang true to the storyline and fitted the characters. Plus, I think they both derived some pleasure from it and each needed the strength the other possessed. Cole managed to have me holding my breath and shedding a tear or too as I prayed for an HEA.

Cole continues to amaze me with her world building, and while we travel, I loved time spent in NOLA. Her ability to weave suspense, dark elements, passion and off the chart humor make me giddy. After finishing this, I splurged and bought the next four audios.

If you haven't started the series I urge you to listen. Robert Petkoff does a phenomenal job with these characters and the series in general. Each character has a unique voice and he brings them to life. Like Renee' Rudman and the writing team of Ilona Andrews, I cannot image Cole without Petkoff.
