A story of finding oneself and accepting what one finds, this is an interesting story. It wasn’t exactly what I expected but definitely interesting. The book starts off in an interesting way, the quickly had me firmly rooting for Merry. I enjoyed the way Merry goes off to Scotland to hike, and enjoy the changes in her life, only to fall ill and to meet the mysterious hermit like Rob.

Rob has made changes himself, and had a hard past. He doesn’t want people around yet he can’t turn Merry away. They are both difficult characters, yet somehow they struggle and push to be together. They don’t expect it to last, yet it does with just a bit of kink thrown in, this is definitely a slow build, but their struggles and other issues give the happily ever after a very satisfying feel to it.

This is a very emotional book, Ms. McKenna does a wonderful job, pulling the reader into their struggles and dragging them along on the emotional rollercoaster, as these two finally become who they were always meant to be.

I would recommend this book. It’s not a soft sweet romance but it’s definitely an emotional story that stuck with me well after I finished it.
