by A. S. A. Harrison

A chilling psychological thriller portraying the disintegration of a relationship down to the deadliest point when murdering your husband suddenly makes perfect sense. For readers of THE SLAP and BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP. Todd Gilbert and Jodie Brett are in a bad place in their relationship. But there has also been little to hold it together, and beneath the surface lie ever-widening cracks. HE is a committed cheater. SHE lives and breathes denial. HE exists in dual worlds. SHE likes to settle scores. HE decides to play for keeps. SHE has nothing left to lose. When it becomes clear that their precarious world could disintegrate at any moment, Jodie knows she stands to lose everything. It's only now she will discover just how much she's truly capable of...

I received a galley copy of this novel to read in exchange for an honest review.

The Silent Wife was an interesting read. It’s not so much a thriller but it is a psychological drama. It was eerie turning the page and watching as this marriage clinically break down from their respective perspectives (albeit the couple not fully realising it). The prose of the novel also added to the clinical feel of the story.

It was also interesting to see how Jodi and Todd react to the state of their marriage and its dissolution. They're not meant to be necessarily likeable; they have their strengths and faults as individuals. I did find myself disliking Todd despite of this because of his failure to man up to his decisions (though I also felt rather sad for him because he seemed quite stuck (for lack of a better word))). I couldn't quite figure out what to think of Jodi; I felt sorry for her but at the same time there's a void that I can't quite grapple with, which makes her rather terrifying of the two on some level.
