Sacrificial Magic by Stacia Kane

Sacrificial Magic (Downside Ghosts, #4) (Chess Putnam, #4)

by Stacia Kane

READING, WRITING, AND RAISING THE DEAD

When Chess Putnam is ordered by an infamous crime boss—who also happens to be her drug dealer—to use her powers as a witch to solve a grisly murder involving dark magic, she knows she must rise to the challenge. Adding to the intensity: Chess’s boyfriend, Terrible, doesn’t trust her, and Lex, the son of a rival crime lord, is trying to reignite the sparks between him and Chess.

Plus there’s the little matter of Chess’s real job as a ghost hunter for the Church of Real Truth, investigating reports of a haunting at a school in the heart of Downside. Someone seems to be taking a crash course in summoning the dead—and if Chess doesn’t watch her back, she may soon be joining their ranks.

As Chess is drawn into a shadowy world of twisted secrets and dark violence, it soon becomes clear that she’s not going to emerge from its depths without making the ultimate sacrifice.

OMG! So many things happened in this, I have no idea where to start! It was amazing, and Chess really grew in this book, although she still always needs her drugs. She made such an important choice, too, in opening up her heart and her soul for the very first time, and seeing that things could actually be the better for it.

Terrible is terribly wonderful in my opinion. He and Chess help each other, the fill the other with love and confidence that they had never had before. Hopefully, Chess will be able to trust in herself a little more as the series goes on. She DOES deserve to have someone who loves her, and she IS worthy, even outside of her work as a churchwitch.

I was really afraid she was going to break her relationship with Terrible because of all of her insecurities. Not trusting Terrible was pretty stupid, but at the same time so understandable knowing how Chess grew up.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series! I love both Chess and Terrible. I have also come to like Lex a little more although he is really a loose cannon right now, isn't he? and maybe Chess have actually even been able to get herself a new friend!
