I went in with some pretty high expectations that this was going to be a dark romance. It was on the fringes, but I'm not sure if this story would have been any different without the trafficking storyline. Yes, that's how the couple met but I don't think it would have mattered one way or another. All it brought was some angst and some horrible things done to the heroine that seemed to be brushed under the rug later.
