I received an ARC through NetGalley.

Haunt Me is not your typical small town romance. It's set in Penny Hollow, which is supposedly the most haunted town in Virginia. At least that's what the residents want tourists to believe, and they do have some sites with creepy stories attached. The most prominent being the Summerfield house. The owner recently passed on, and Justin Kent wants to buy it and renovate it for ghost tours. He does have a personal interest in the house, but he also needs to complete a town invigoration project to get his inheritance. Too bad MacKenzie was left the house by her great aunt, and she has no intention of selling. Mac wants a fresh start after her divorce, and the rumored haunted house is the perfect place to do that. It also helps that after months of no writing, she's suddenly inspired to write a tragic historical romance.

Ghost stories are really hit or miss for me, but I really enjoyed Haunt Me. It's a kind of possession story and kind of reincarnation, which was interesting. It's obvious early on that there really is something wrong with the house, especially when Mac literally cannot stop writing. Her book is unlike anything she's written before, and she feels like she's actually experiencing the words she's typing. Of course, it's the Summerfield ghost trying to get the truth of what happened to her out. I also loved how that story parallels Mac and Justin's relationship. I started getting nervous, since the story has a dark tone and is clearly heading for tragedy. But there was a nice twist at the end, and I was very please with how it all turned out.

Haunt Me was a great, quick Romance. I loved the creepy vibe, since it never went into fully scary territory despite some disturbances. The entire time I was worried about a stupid fight, since Justin does want to buy the house, so it would have been easy for Mac to flip out on him for seducing her in order to obtain the property. Thankfully, it doesn't play out like that. There is a fight, but it's paranormally influenced, so I liked it.
