What a difference a couple of books can make in a character. In this latest installment in the series, we find Chloe dealing with the fallout from the vampire attack on her community that left 2 hunters dead and her grandfather seriously injured in the hospital. While she's devastated over the latest events, she is also feeling tremendous guilt because she's resolved that if she hadn't move there no one would have been hurt.

We also have the development of a love triangle for Chloe, her mentor and friend, Drew and high school senior, Gavin. Chloe has her handful with these two, as they both appeal to her in different ways.

Chloe has definitely matured, a lot, from when we first met her in book 1. She now looks beyond her need to avenge her mother's death to what's good for the community. She's working to develop her gifts and understands that revenge and hate aren't always the best way to fight an enemy.

The best of the series so far.
