A Conjuring of Light by V E Schwab

A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic, #3)

by V.E. Schwab

The precarious equilibrium among the four Londons has reached its breaking point. Once brimming with the red vivacity of magic, darkness casts a shadow over the Maresh Empire, leaving a space for another London to rise. Kell-once assumed to be the last surviving Antari-begins to waver under the pressure of competing loyalties. Lila Bard, once a commonplace-but never common-thief, has survived and flourished through a series of magical trials. But now she must learn to control the magic, before it bleeds her dry. Meanwhile, the disgraced Captain Alucard Emery and the Night Spire crew are attempting a race against time to acquire the impossible, as an ancient enemy returns to claim a crown and a fallen hero is desperate to save a decaying world...

I would like to begin by saying that I LOVE Schwab's writing style. Her words always resonate with me, always struck home. I love how, with just a few sentences, she can create a deep emotion, a magical world, a great character.
With that said... I have to admit that at first I wasn't enjoying this book very much: I thought some chapters were merely fillers and I was convinced the series could have been easily written as a duology. The only thing that kept me interested was Holland, who's probably the best character I've read so far this year.
After 75% though the story finally begins to become interesting and important and I absolutely LOVED the ending, which is why I decided to give this book 4 stars, even though the story don't deserve such a high rating.

Anyway, I'll miss this series, it was really enjoyable!
