Sadly, Unwanted did nothing for me. It picks up right after the ending of Bitter Bite. Finn is basically being shunned by his co-workers for the role they think he played in their loved ones being killed by his mother's schemes. We normally see Finn as someone who is very upbeat and cocky, but here he's defeated. He goes along with everything his boss says to keep his job, he keeps his head down at work, and is just generally beating himself up over something he thinks he could have prevented. That is essentially the whole novella. But of course, there has to be a glimpse of the old the Finn at the conclusion.
I definitely think I could have gone without Unwanted and not have missed anything. It really just is Finn blaming himself and then him trying to set things to right by helping out one of the widows. I feel like this was more about her than it was about him, and I didn't really care at all. There's a little bit of action toward the end when Finn does what he thinks he has to do, but it was over too soon to generate any suspense. Whether or not that event has any impact on the future of the series, I have no clue.
