I really enjoyed this book, but there were some not good parts and some warnings. TW: suicide - I am not a Native American, but the letter where Mim declares herself a Cherokee Chieftess or something along those lines, felt very inappropriate. Even if you have a native ancestor, unless you were raised native and hold that position, you should not claim something like that. There was a bit of fat-phobia when Mom talks about wanting to be dumb. Also there was nothing ever mean or rude, but it felt strange when a character who is assumed to be on the autism spectrum was referred to as their pet, even if it was said lovingly. Other than these issues I had with it, I did really enjoy the novel. It's an interesting story, with character growth and people with flaws.
