While the writing style has been difficult to grasp at first because of the formality, it gets interesting as you read along. I get to understand where Deacon is coming from, he has his own reasons as to why he proposed an arrangement to Ashlyn. Although, for me, there was no character build up. It's like introducing people, telling us their names and their role, but really I didn't feel any emotions.
