The Princess Bridehas been a family favourite for close to three decades. Ranked by the American Film Institute as one of the top 100 Greatest Love Stories and by the Writers Guild of America as one of the top 100 screenplays of all time, The Princess Bride will continue to resonate with audiences for years to come.
Cary Elwes was inspired to share his memories and give fans an unprecedented look into the creation of the film while participating in the twenty-fifth anniversary cast reunion. In As You Wishhe has created an enchanting experience; in addition to never-before seen photos and interviews with his fellow cast mates, there are plenty of set secrets and backstage stories.
With a foreword by Rob Reiner and a limited edition original poster by acclaimed artist Shepard Fairey, As You Wishis a must-have for all fans of this beloved film.
A heartfelt and moving tribute to a film that has inspired generations. I know very few people who don't have childhood memories of this wonderful film, and yet it's appeal endures well in to adulthood, making it truly a fairytale adventure for all ages.
Elwes speakes candidly about making the film, and the love that he and his cast members had, and indeed still have, for this film shines through. Knowing how much care and dedication went in to making 'The Princess Bride' makes the experience of watching it even finer.
There were a few parts toward the end that I found irrelevant and boring to read (I for one literally couldn't care less if the Pope and Bill Clinton are fans...) but on the whole Elwes comes across as humble and proud to have been a part of this great film. Indeed it even gives us a rare glimpse in to the difficulties and politics one comes across when making a film.
If this book doesn't inspire you to watch 'The Princess Bride' repeatedly then it would appear the Dread Pirate Roberts may have already taken your soul. But for me, if anyone wants a 'Princess Bride' movie night, the only real answer is 'As You Wish'.
