Initial thoughts: I think I like the idea of books set on Nantucket more than Hilderbrand's actual books. Well, I was also drawn to the premise: two adult twins living on two nearby islands but their lives (intentionally) don't cross until they have no choice. A lot of the books was spent comparing and contrasting the twins' lives as well as the communities between Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard.

If you're looking for a book to keep you occupied at the beach or something, The Identicals is the sort of book that you can put down anytime and easily carry on without needing to remember much of what happened before. This means it's engaging enough but there's not all that much to the plot beyond the sibling rivalry. Sure, there's a resolution but it kind of lacked in excitement.

Anyway, I did enjoy the aunt-niece relationship. Those were the most entertaining and heart-warming parts, if you ask me. For that, it was worth picking up The Identicals, even if I'm not sure I'll pick up another Hilderbrand novel again.
