Siren Song (Blood Singer, #2)

Siren Song is much like its predecessor Blood Song. For me, that’s not a good thing. But it did do some things right.

There’s more information and her endless supply of trouble gets an explanation. I rather like it actually. Far better than her stumbling from one clusterfuck into another. because

Sirens, their abilities, and their society get delved into a bit. It’s still misty around the edges for me. I liked slowing down to find this stuff out. But sadly, it didn’t last. Nothing can just be in this book, it’s always amped TO THE EXTREME!!!

Celia doesn’t just get dumped, she gets baby mama drama dumped. She isn’t just a Siren, she’s a princess that’s better fitting the guidelines than the others to rule.

Speaking of sirens...Why didn’t she ask more questions about this kind of shit when she found out?? Plus, I though Sirens weren’t allowed anywhere but the island. How and why did her Grandpa get out anyways?!? Why doesn't she practice or ask for help with these powers? She was complaining about being BORED there, FFS. Anyways….

She isn’t just death cursed, she’s been cursed as a child and now can’t get rid of it for fear of dying anyways. She isn’t just anything and comes of worse than 90’s commercials.



Some things that didn't make sense or fit in Blood Song is cleared up, added more vagueness worthy of Facebook, and some things stay dropped. All in all, it felt tighter than its debut.

There was one enemy plot line completely tided up, one partially so, and one that's clearly the overarching plot for the series for the foreseble future. That's still so far up in the air, and there's nothing to do about it. I don't like the having to wait around with no leads or anything. She seems to be forced to do that a lot, actually….

Romance: Same thing as the first, it just **happens** and she's apparently powerless to stop it. Celia pushes it aside and away most of the time trying to ignore it. Thankfully, there isn't much here and I'm glad for that. Shown instead of told for me. Certainly never felt it.



Characters:: Little better, mostly down to more exposure to our major players and not have a football team In rotation. The Sirens and New Attraction did suffer the same first impressions as new characters in Blood Song, but without being so crowded, they fared better in the long run. But lord, it is lathered on thick with Bubba. SO tired of hearing how he's “a redneck but good, like not really a redneck.” It's the same with others but his was very annoying for some reason. Plus, I'm tired of Celia's “I'm nothing special, oh god look at all the models” when she's CLEARLY fucking physically attractive.

It all comes off as contrived.





I only started reading the 3rd book because work was dead and it's the book I had. Stopped at page 32 and doubt I'm picking it up again any time soon. It's the same things and I can't deal with more. Not the series for me and I feel I gave it more than a fair shot.
