We meet Corbin, the main character, having a few drinks with the beautiful Margot. The down on his luck writer is recovering from a huge loss in his life and runs to Paris. After a few drinks, they decide to move on to another bar by taking a shortcut down an alleyway. This said alleyway changes Corbin's life forever.  He tries to save a 'homeless' man from being attacked by three masked men and in the process, he manages to get the homeless man's blood on him, in his mouth and in his eyes (yuck). Now he is infected and he is embroiled in a war he knew nothing about!

I found it interesting reading about the two warring armies of the Tacho R'asa (Gypsies) and the Les Fantômes de la Nuit (Albinos). We learn the back stories of these enemies and the hate that they both receive from the outside world.  This interest kept me peaked throughout the book, as we discover more as the story unfolds. You are guided, by Corbin the narrator of this book,  to who is deemed the "good guys" and who are the "bad guys. Like most books, don't always believe what you read.

Jeff's creative writing is completely on point. His description of some of the most horrific of scenes are so realistic, you can actually visualise it in your mind. This was not always something I wanted to be able to picture! Even more so when we are taken down the catacombs underneath Paris, surrounded by six million skeletons and rats running around in the dark - yeah I will miss that tour and see you later!

After reading the last few chapters I definitely needed a drink to recover but I had to do with a cup of tea instead.

Next time I read one his books, I think a bottle of something alcoholic will be next to me!!

I received this book as part of the blog tour for my honest review
