Is Mae a busybody?

Hitches, Hideouts, and Homicides by Tonya Kappes is a set in the year after Mae moved to Normal, Kentucky when her whole life changed. Hank and she are still going out, she has amazing friends, but she can’t seem to stop snooping around in other people's business.

Mae West, our sleuth

Mae West is our sleuth, main character, point of view, and the one trying to solve the murder. Granted this time, she wasn’t going to, but certain circumstances have led her to believe that she must. A lot is going on in this book for Mae as always. She is dealing with Hank not wanting her to get hurt, her friend Dottie’s friend Paulette showing up, and of course, learning more about Abby Fawn (and her family).

Likes

  • She was already thinking about solving the crime before she was asked to and before Hank told her not to do it.

  • I love that when someone tells Mae no, she does it anyway.

  • She wants to help her friends but at what cost for her relationship with Hank?

Hank Sharp, love interest and detective

Hank Sharp is Mae's boyfriend and a local cop. He is still the same guy that he has been throughout the series so far. Just a few new things like him telling Natalie to stop getting into his personal space and that he doesn’t like her. Despite his sister trying to set them up in the past. Hank is just trying to his job while keeping Mae out of trouble, which in itself is a full-time job.

Mystery

The mystery is that someone killed is a horse trainer. Everyone has a theory on with who robbed the bank and what they did with the money. Of course, that was playing through the whole thing in the entire book. What happened to the money, and who did it? I loved the mystery I thought it was excellent, but I did figure out whodunit a bit early on.

It was reasonably easy to be able to figure out who did it, but I won’t tell you who. We do have some red herrings in this one.

Four Star

Hitches, Hideouts, and Homicides by Tonya Kappes is the newest mystery in the series. It was exciting to follow Mae's thought process. I loved that I actually figured it out. This series is so great, the more I read it, the more I feel like I am friends with the characters. I adore Tonya Kappes mysteries, she has the way of writing that makes you feel comfortable with the characters, and her mysteries keep me guessing.

I am giving it a four-star rating and recommending it to anyone that likes cozy mysteries.

Take a look at the great recipes in the back of the book. You may see a recipe post from one of these on my blog. Well, they are on my list. Let's hope I can get my nose out of the books long enough to cook.

Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of Hitches, Hideouts, and Homicides by Tonya Kappes.

Until the next time,

Happy Reading!
