Andy and the Lion by

Andy and the Lion

A Caldecott Honor Book

While walking to school one day, Andy meets a lion and soon makes a new friend. A tale of gratitude and helping out our neighbors, children of all ages will love this retelling of the classic folktale “Androcles and the Lion.”

This is week 28 of the Memoria Press [b:Junior Kindergarten Curriculum: Complete Lesson Plans for One Year|15784554|Jr. Kindergarten Curriculum Complete Lesson Plans for One Year|Faculty and Staff of Highlands Latin School|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1346269707s/15784554.jpg|21502407] and the literature choice for this week is [b:Andy and the Lion|1365825|Andy and the Lion|James Daugherty|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347783163s/1365825.jpg|2441080]. Coming into this I do know who [a:James Daugherty|5959003|James Daugherty|http://www.goodreads.com/assets/nophoto/nophoto-M-50x66-e07624dc012f2cce49c7d9aa6500c6c0.jpg] is because of a new 2013 book [b:Lincoln's Gettysburg Address|16183486|Lincoln's Gettysburg Address|James Henry Daugherty|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1355833471s/16183486.jpg|22093184]. It was neat knowing how amazing those illustrations are to be able to come back to this Caldecott winner book with it's whimsical two-tone illustrations.

This is my favorite part of the Memoria Press Junior Kindergarten curriculum in the book selections and questions with vocabulary to discuss during and after reading a class treasure. Both girls are actually fighting over this one to “read” alone and it even was involved in nap time. We read it again today as well as yesterday and I’m sure it will be read again tomorrow.

I purchased this one to go along with our curriculum for Memoria Press Junior Kindergarten.
