Uncommon Passion

by Anne Calhoun

After leaving a restrictive religious community, Rachel Hill is on a mission to divest herself of her virginity. Newly independent and struggling to establish herself, she’s not looking for anything complicated. She bids on sexy SWAT officer Ben Harris at a bachelor auction, confident he’ll give her the night of her life and nothing more.

But Ben is jaded and detached, living his life in an endless cycle of danger-fueled adrenaline jags, drinking, and sex. When he misses the fact that his bachelor auction hookup is a virgin, he’s shocked by his obliviousness, and by the risk she took. To make amends, Ben offers Rachel all he can: a no-strings-attached sexual education.

Ben’s lessons introduce Rachel to down and dirty passion, but she’s searching for something more profound than sex, and she’s willing to walk away to find it. Ben can’t get Rachel out of his head, but will he come to terms with his troubled past and learn to love?

Having spent the first 25 years of her life in a fundamentalist religious community being told what to feel and how to feel when Rachel finally brakes free she wants to experience everything. This desire to experience new things is what leads her to buying the sexy Ben Harris at a bachelor auction to lose her virginity.

Ben is a love them and leave them sort of guy, it is better to have no emotional attachments to anyone then he can't get hurt again. When he takes Rachel's virginity without even realizing it he wants a do-over so he can make it good for her, pretty soon he is offering to teach her all about sex as long as he can keep his heart out of it.

Ben and Rachel are both emotionally damaged people who when they come together create magic in the bedroom, and in the truck, and the living room... Working to achieve her dreams and goals Rachel finds some of the emotional and physical release she needs in Ben, Ben who has remained closed off and a black hole of emotions finds himself feeling things he hasn't for years and he isn't sure he wants to.

Uncommon Passion was an amazingly well written story that takes you through the powerful emotional struggles of two damaged souls to find happiness in who and what they are now. Ms. Calhoun takes packs plenty of heat and sex into a rollercoaster ride of emotions and adrenaline filled moments along with the love of a family and the rebuilding of an independent life.
