I love happy endings! Over the past year, I've become super invested in the lives of these characters, so much that I didn't even care that the plot of The Ever After of Ella and Micha was quite repetitive and circular. It's just who they are. Ella sometimes gets stuck in this cycle of sadness and running from her problems, only to have Micha reel her back in. I knew that they'd get their happily ever after eventually, but I wasn't sure what the author would put them through to get there.
I was quite relieved at the beginning of The Ever After of Ella and Micha, because the last book had me imagining the worst. Luckily, Ella hasn't taken off or taken a turn for the worst. She wants to go home to be married, with family and friends around. That's not all though. She had received a package from a mystery sender which included some of her mother's possessions. This is what prompts Ella to want to go home, so she can be close to her mom (and Micha's) for the wedding. However, her mother's journal sparks all kinds of questions and worries for Ella. Especially in regards to her future with Micha.
Ella actually talks about her problems instead of running, which I was glad for. She's come a long way since the girl we met in The Secret of. She still struggles with anxiety and depression, but she's handling it all much better than she has before. I also really appreciated that Micha's alcoholism was discussed a bit, rather than simply being forgotten. He's not perfect either, but he recognizes the problem and is taking precautions to make sure he doesn't let alcohol rule him. Micha also continues to be a wonderful support for Ella.
The Ever After of Ella and Micha isn't all gloom and doom as Ella learns more about her mother's dark side. We get peeks into all of the wedding and holiday festivities. Ella and Micha also have plenty of sex as usual. There's also a really cute flashback of when they first became friends! While this wasn't my favorite of the series, I do think it was a fitting ending to Ella and Micha's story. I'll certainly miss them.
