Spider-Man: Miles Morales Vol. 2

Spider-Man: Miles Morales volume 2 was a pretty interesting read, but it weaves in and out of the Civil War II plotline. It’d be helpful to have read that first, as there are a couple of events where you see the scenes leading up to it, but not the actual event (as they are already shown in Civil War II, no need to show it twice I suppose?). One of these events is pretty relevant to Miles’ character, and while the context does eventually fill in the blanks, it isn’t an immediate sort of thing.



A lot happens in volume 2; Miles and Fabio (AKA Gold ball) come to an understanding, there are the events of Civil War II, a whole mess involving Jessica Jones because of his grandmother, and an arc dedicated to his father. Thankfully I found most of it pretty interesting, and seeing as I’m caught up in Civil War II (I’m caught up in something?! What a shock right?) I was able to follow that whole plot arc pretty easily.
I really enjoyed watching Miles and Fabio come to an understanding about how they could trust each other. Miles desperately needs more superheroes his age in his life – ideally ones that he knows the actual identity of (no offense to Ms. Marvel, you guys know I adore her, but he needs people he can literally talk to face to face with).
The downside of the whole heart to heart Miles and Fabio had? Jessica Jones heard it. Now, I’m not at all surprised that she was able to uncover Miles’ alter ego in the time frame she did. Not only is she actually pretty good at being a detective, but Miles isn’t being as careful as he should be. I absolutely loved the whole conversation between Miles, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. Priceless! I hope Miles works harder at keeping his secret identity…you know…a secret? And that the attempts are covered in the next volume.
As for the plot with his dad? I’m not quite certain where it’s leading to. Obviously something S.H.I.E.L.D. related, but beyond that I can’t say for certain. I don’t mind the time spent with his dad, though I’ll admit I’d rather see more of Spider-Man (that being the point of the comic and all). I’m sure it’ll tie back around soon enough though.
