The story follows Abby Fuller. Single mum of Max and nurse to Caroline. Abby is a very likeable character. She is very family orientated and also proud. She wants to give Max everything he deserves but she wants to do it herself through hard work. She doesn't want to be just handed it.
Max is a cute kid. He's smart, sweet and fun. I love the sock sliding scenes. He has some funny moments but he also has some really serious ones that made me well up a little.
Nick Sinclair is a workaholic who's hiding from his feelings. He feels the pressure of keeping his father's business going and pretty much blocks out the world to do it. Nick to me seemed like a man who was still struggling with the grief of losing his father and didn't know how to express it. The only thing that made sense to him was to keep the business going. Under that cold exterior is a man with a big heart.
Since Nick's wife left, he's not taken the time to make his house feel like a home again. With his family coming for Christmas he needs someone to make it feel warm, cosy and well, lived in. Caroline recommends Abby for the job and Nick hires pretty much on the spot. Abby has wanted to be an interior designer for a long time but put her dreams on hold when she got pregnant with Max. Now she has the opportunity of a lifetime. I loved hearing how Abby transformed the mansion from a cold empty shell to a warm loving home. She has such an eye for detail.
This book is warm and cosy. It will leave you with a glow and a smile and at this time of year, there's not much more you need from a book. This is the perfect companion to a snuggle on the sofa.
