But I was able to overlook it because everything I loved in the first book was here in this one! August was adorable. He was so completely clueless (even more clueless than Adam) and it was hilarious. He was so smart but so naive. I liked that he had managed to make friends. For all Adam rags on him for being unable to fit in, I would say he managed to fit better than Adam on the whole rather than the individual. Adam can blend for brief moments - August can't blend but he has his own niche - nerdy scientist. He has friends and even makes a friend within this book - Cricket! His friendship with Cricket was hilarious - I loved that he followed her suggestions to hook Lucas and that he gives her a job!
I liked Lucas for the most part. Not as much as I liked Noah but I did like him. My biggest complaint about him and this book would be the paranormal element. Yeah August considers it a science he just doesn't understand - but I just felt it was jarring. I prefer to know going into things that it will be paranormal or won't be paranormal or whatever - I'm not fond of the mixing of my genres without warning. But I had to read this one because I'd read the first one and it was like changing the game on me halfway through and I didn't like it. Still, I did my best to ignore it.
And the appearances of Noah and Adam and the rest of the family did help to ease my annoyance. The funny lines also helped. Overall it was an enjoyable read which may not deserve five whole stars but close enough to it that I feel comfortable handing them over. 5 stars.
