Girl With Three Eyes

Girl With Three Eyes is a fast-paced middle-grade fantasy with an intriguing premise. It's categorized as young adult, but I think it's closer to middle grade than YA. There was an air of murder mystery to the story at times, with the element of magic thanks to the main character's third eye.

It's described as a "futuristic fairy tale," and that about sums it up. It was a little difficult to imagine the world at first because it seemed set in a fairy tale past, but then futuristic elements like skyboards (hoverboards) and handheld tablets would make an appearance and throw me for a minute. After a few chapters, however, I was able to immerse myself in the story.

A lot of focus was placed on the sport of skyboarding when I think a little more should have been placed on the rest of the story. So much time was spent on tryouts and training that it made the ending seem rushed, and I feel like having a better balance between the two could have improved the story.

There's a large cast of characters, but their voices were unique and it was easy to picture them as I read. Girl With Three Eyes was a very fast read - I finished it within a day - and it's filled with imaginative world building and an interesting plot.
