Almost 3.5 stars. Kelly Oram's story is fun and the situation lends itself to be quite amusing. Preston and Kenzie are cute and the banter when they get going teasing and challenging each other is well done.
But the end is too much at the end for two reasons. 1. They barely kiss and then they're getting married? Sure that works for the characters but when does the reader get to experience them together having figured things out? Like a post-story scene would be nice. It's like a Larry Levinson movie where they come together in the last 30 seconds and the end of the movie is their first kiss. 2. After having read the first four books, this jump forward in time shows the lingering relationships that we saw build in the earlier books. It's nice and it accentuates how abruptly this one ends because we don't get anything of Preston and Kenzie as far as lingering or life together or anything.
Still the banter! Jaxon is finally as much fun in this one as he was in The Girl and the Cowboy Next Door. I enjoyed that he was so much a part of both Landon and Preston's stories. The family, the atmosphere, the vibe of the whole thing is fun. And every time they say “ma'am” it's too adorable.
