Proceed With Caution:
This book contains a natural disaster, injuries, and mentions of death.
The Basics:
Steph's Outcast is the fourteenth book of the series, but there's a several month time jump. I'd still recommend reading the previous books to get caught up, this did feel like a new beginning for the beach dwellers.
My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed Steph's Outcast! There's a sea monster! Well, kind of. I had gotten really excited for it as soon as I saw it on the cover. It's not quite what I was expecting, but everyone does deserve some kind of break from all of the big disasters happening on the island. Devi certainly was loving having their quiet lives disrupted by this event! But this is not about Devi. This is about Steph and Juth, an unlikely pairing that just works.
Steph's Outcast starts with Steph still trying to coax Juth and Pak into the tribe. Juth is adamant to stick to the old ways, but he can sense something bad coming and must protect his son. Ultimately, he has no choice but to go with Steph in order to just survive! Obviously, the two get close, and he comes to a new understanding about Steph's prior actions. It's actually a huge misunderstanding, but it was cute! Aww, Juth!
I don't want to give too much away about Steph's Outcast, because it is quite different than the other books and there are several surprises sprinkled throughout! You'll just have to read it and find out! I can't wait to see who the rest of the ladies pair off with as we're getting down to last of them.
