Proceed With Caution:
This book contains mentions of dismemberment.
The Basics:
Devi's Distraction is the seventh book of the series and starts concurrently with the previous book, then continues on from there. Devi is the scientist of the planet and spends all of her time on the beach prodding her specimens. At least until N'dek asks her to help him build a prosthetic leg.
My Thoughts:
Devi's Distraction is easily my favorite of the series so far! I was so excited to get her book after meeting her in Hannah's Hero. She is my kinda woman! Devi is a paleophysiologist and phylogenist, which basically means she studies organisms' anatomy to determine ancestral connections, which for us means more world-building! I loved seeing this planet through Devi's eyes. While we obviously will never know for sure what inhabited the planet previously, it's fun to speculate.
Of course, Devi's Distraction is a romance and it's an amazing one! Devi hasn't given much thought to which male she might resonate to. She had bad luck with dating back on Earth, so she's happy to just do her research in peace. Meanwhile, N'dek can feel that he's about to resonate, and assumes it's going to be Bridget since she has all of the signs of an impending resonance. But as he and Devi get closer after she helps him with his leg, it's so clear that these two are perfect for each other!
N'dek isn't the grump that he's come across as previously. He's felt like a burden to his tribe since he needs to be carried everywhere. He was a fierce warrior before, so this is extra difficult for him. But no more! N'dek is going to stand tall once again and protect his mate! And awkward, geeky Devi has her sexual awakening without losing what makes her so special.
Basically, Devi's Distraction was just great. I loved geeking out with Devi over her discoveries. It makes this world so much more rich! Her budding friendship with S'bren was also fun. I'm getting strong himbo vibes from him and can't wait to get into his head.
