"To Keep a King" is the sequel to "To Take a King", which I LOVED. It's such a unique concept. In "To Take a King" we learned that Nick loved Cooper for years and years, even though he thought Coop was straight. Cooper loved Nicky and did everything he could to protect him ever since they were five years old. On Nicky's 25ty birthday, they finally come together and admit their love for each other only to have their world rocked. Some men appear, put Nicky's brother and friends in comas, shoot Cooper, and take him away. Turns out, Nick is King of the solar system. Yes...you heard me. King of the Solar System. Turns out he's a Venutian (from Venus), and it's time to claim his kingdom. Through some dangerous, but exciting, events, Nicky and Coop are finally reuinted, and they set off on new adventures together.
In "To Keep a King", Coop is Nicky's royal consort, and he is still doing everything he can to protect Nicky. Nicky's brother is now with them, and their friends seem to be recovering nicely. One day, their ship is attacked by some very dangerous people, and Cooper undergoes a few...changes...while searching the galaxy for his beloved.
A lot of things are going on in this story. It's all very exciting. A king is bound to have enemies, right? This particular enemy is is doubly evil, and that means doubly frightening. I enjoyed the action and battle scenes. An "erotic romance" book can't exist on love and sex alone. Stormy Glenn always writes these scenes extremely well. Her imagination is off the charts, and her style is detailed, so the reader can see everything in their mind's eye. However, since I mentioned love and sex, I have to tell you that Ms. Glenn writes THAT nicely also. The tenderness between Nicky and Cooper is obvious, and the sex? WHEW! Very, very hot stuff!
I was so satisfied with this second installment in the "Venusian" trilogy. Now, I'm looking so forward to book number three.
