This is the second book in the Essential Pattern Cutting series and covers a whole range of clothing from weather wear to hoodies and smart casual wear. It is aimed at all skill levels and thus the diagrams are clear and uncomplicated. Also included are guidelines on design interpretation - a skill which is often neglected in other pattern cutting books. As in previous guides, the following styles are based on the series of Shoben Fashion Media block pattern charts.

This guide uses Chart 6: Men's/Women's Casual Block Patterns, and indeed most of the illustrated styles can be worn by men or women. Note that all measurements stated can only be approximate as they will depend on the selected starting pattern size. Also note that most of the illustrated styles and pattern cutting techniques can also be applied to children's casual blocks - charts 7b/8b/9b. Styles have been selected not only for their style value but also to include essential pattern cutting techniques and features.
