Wow!! Park Avenue Prince made me cry. This story was a little harder to love than King of Wall Street. Don’t get me wrong, they’re both good. I just felt that one was easier to love (the characters) than the other.
When I met Sam, I felt like he had a block of ice around him. There were cracks and fissures in his ice, showing that he’d taken some hits. But, it was still hard, impenetrable and the picture he presented was a little distorted. A few chunks would fall off and you would get the impression it was melting. As soon as the thaw would start, you could see him looking for a cooler room. He needed to lock himself up tight. He couldn’t let the ice melt…because that would leave him vulnerable.
Now, Grace, she’s a little brittle when I meet up with her again. In previous meetings, she seemed fairly well put together. Unfortunately, after one too many douchewaffles taking advantage of her tender and gooey centre, she’s had to go hard. Grace thought that her perfect guy would be someone who needs her more than she needs him. Turns out, her perfect guy needed her but she needed him just as much.
Isn’t it funny how life turns out? The Princess ends up finding her Prince in the castle she escaped from, trying to find her happy place.
Sam has lived a life where he pushed away anything with permanency. Only one other person has stuck by him through the years, but she’s the only one because she’s got her own version of ice around her. When Sam meets Grace, he’s completely smitten with her. At first, he thinks he’ll just take his usual fill and move on, but this time it’s different. With Angie, and her husband Chas’s (only mentioning Chas who doesn’t play a major role, so you know there is NOTHING romantic between Angie and Sam) help, Sam must learn to accept that his ice is melting. And, a few more cracks before it’s melt, will not make him shatter.
Grace, she’s a bit of a sucker for punishment. Even after all the pain, she’s received from previous douchewaffles, she refuses to give up when things get tough. She’ll wait and hold strong because she knows (or hopes) that eventually Sam’s ice will completely melt. Grace knows Sam is capable of being warm, she just has to hope that he knows he’s capable of it.
Park Avenue Prince was a good story. The first half took a little while to warm up to, but the second half had all the emotional highs and lows that I enjoy in my romance reads. It was HOT and sweet, mixed with heartbreak and confusion. In the end, I was completely satisfied and finished with a big goofy grin on my face.
I can’t wait for Scarlett’s story.
