Emmalyn is torn from her family and betrayed by her mother when she is forced from the only home she has known. She finds herself alone and living with her mother and her step-father who just happens to be the leader of one of the biggest human trafficking rings in the world.
Forced to start her training as sex slave Emmalyn is roomed with a boy named Kodah. A young hot-tempered boy going through his own hell. Before long these two find comfort, friendship, and love with each other. Both clinging to the hope that one day they can escape the nightmare they find themselves in and make a happily ever after together.
WOW...so this one was a little hard for me to rate. While I LOVED it (I can't believe this is a debut novel) and will for sure be keeping my eye for the next book. I can't say I ENJOYED it. This was a WEE bit over my comfortable line. I can (and do) enjoy sex slave books, but this book deals with child sex slavery and my stomach was in knots the whole time.
That said the writing was fantastic. The plot moves along nicely. There are twists and turns. The characters were well developed. My heart broke for Emmalyn and Kodah (as well as for all of the children being held) I want these two to get a happily ever after. I want J.B to get a happily ever after. I want to know more about Buck and Drifter.
So while reading this left me with a pit in my stomach that I did not enjoy (and I honestly almost put this aside on a couple occasions) I am glad I kept on because the author did her job. She drew me in. She made me step out of my box. She made my heart ache and she made me intrigued enough to carry on and see where this journey will lead for these characters. So two thumbs up from yours truly.
