There is a LOT going on in this book, and I don't think it served it well.

First, you have the main characters, Mike and Brie. Mike is a Marine/retired LAPD cop who is in Virgin River after being shot on the job and needing a good place to recover. Brie is the sister of his good friend Jack. She was a prominent prosecutor until being attacked raped by a man she couldn't convict (not really a spoiler, it happens first thing in the book). They spend the whole book dancing around each other as Mike (also a victim of a violent crime) tries to gently help her recover and hopes she'll fall in love with him a long the way. Which, duh.

But along with them there are so many other things going on. There's Jack and Mel's story. There's Preacher and Paige. There's the General, Vanessa, and Tommy. There's Tommy and his girlfriend Brenda. There's Jack and Mike's friend Paul. There's something sinister happening among the area teens. And we'll throw in a couple of other townspeople for good measure. IT'S TOO MUCH.

I think the love story really suffered from lack of conflict. Sure, there is some external conflict affecting both Mike and Brie, but there is absolutely no conflict between the two of them. I need a little spice with my sugar, please.

Overall, it's not bad, just not the best. I like Robyn Carr's books if I want a pleasant, gentle romance with interconnecting characters, but I guess this one was just a little too gentle. I'll definitely read more (I've already started the next one).

I continued reading the Virgin River series with Whispering Rock by Robyn Carr. I’ve really been enjoying my read through of this series! Small town contemporary romances just do something for me.

I’m not going to lie though, Whispering Rock was a hard book to get through. Brie is a rape survivor. Mike is a gang violence survivor. There is a lot that both characters are working through. It was hard but worth it to watch them work together to overcome the things done to them.

Virgin River hasn’t changed except that more and more people are discovering small town living for themselves. It was nice spending time with couples from the previous novels. I can tell that as I work my way through the rest of the series it will be nice to catch up with the storylines of couples we’ve come to know and love!

Whispering Rock was packed with quite a few things happening in and around the small town. While there was a lot going on I didn’t feel like it took away from the romance. I very much look forward to the next book in the series!

I stayed up until 1amish in order to read this one. I am totally in love with this town and its inhabitants. Brie and Mike had a wonderful story to experience and i was so glad to these 2 found each other after everything they've been through. We met Tom, Walt and Vanni and I know I am looking forward to Paul and Vanni's story. Paul and Vanni's time together has already been so special. Tom is another one of RC's "baby Alpha's" he is already following in Rick's footsteps. I love these young men that she writes- they love so fully.
I did not think that this series was going to hook me like it has but I am in it hook, line and sinker!
