Ok wow. So glad I picked this one up. But man, that ending!! Talk about a cliff. Looking for book 2 ASAP! Definite rape trigger warnings for this one, BTW.
I cannot lie, I one-clicked this without reading the blurb, because I love Sayer Bennett. So, I went in totally blind. This was not what I expected, but I still liked it. Warning: the prologue is very painful, and I was an emotional mess after it. It's quite violent, but it's the only time in the whole book, and I think it was important to properly qualify Sela's motives.
I really loved Sela and Beck together. They were able to scale each other's walls, and latch onto pieces of the other's heart. Watching their relationship morph and become more is quite lovely. I hope Bennett gives these two a chance to be amazing together.
Again, I did not read the blurb, and expected this to be like the rest of Bennett's books - stand alone companion type books. Nope. This is actually a trilogy, and the cliffhanger is brutal.
This review was originally posted on (un)Conventional Bookviews Sugar Daddy is well done! Sela has a lot on her mind, and she is ready to do what it takes to get revenge! Only, Beck kind of throws her for a loop, with his charming personality and how he's able to give her feelings she never thought she'd ever have.
When I started Sugar Daddy, I didn't think I'd get the hotness factor I received! Sela seemed so set on revenge, I thought there wouldn't be any kind of connection between her and Beck, but man, I was so wrong! As Beck and Sela got to know each other better - both in bed and out of it - their relationship became something Sela could count on. And she really needed to feel the feelings she was able to achieve when she was with Beck. Because of what happened to her when she was only 16, she thought she'd forever be unable to have a fulfilling sexual relationship, or to ever trust a man who wasn't her father.
Bennett managed to treat a very tough subject in a respectful way, and also to show that even after such a horrible experience, Sela might have felt broken, but she had the possibility to put the pieces back together if she gave it her all. I really enjoyed how both Beck and Sela grew when they were together, even if they were both guarded in many ways, too. Beck was used to women being manipulative, and Sela really thought most men were arse holes. Above everything that happened with them, though, the shadow JT threw on most things that surrounded him made trust and moving forward difficult; especially for Sela.
Written in first person point of view, present tense and in dual perspectives where we get both Sela's and Beck's chapters, the story was quite fast-paced, and filled with great dialogues and sexy hotness, I enjoyed myself immensely! Beware of cliffhanger at the end, though - I don't know how I'm going to be able to wait for Sugar Rush that will be released later this year!
Fuck, but I miss doing the actual programming. This is my original baby before my eyes. Sure, it's morphed to become better and better, but it's all my vision.
I look in the mirror, still shocked with my new appearance. Six months ago, I ditched every bit of metal in my face and ears except a hole in each lobe that now sports tiny gold hoops.
I had an overwhelming desire to kick a fictional character in the ding ding.
This book made me want to have the ability to shoot fireballs from eyes at my kindle. But see, I like my kindle and I don’t want to hurt my kindle. But I really didn’t like what I was reading on my kindle. Sugar Daddy is one of those books that I love to hate…or is it…hate to love?
Throughout the book, I disliked all three main characters at one time or another. One of those three stood out from the others. I absolutely, truly ruly, despised, hated and abhorred Jonathon Townsend. I hated JT enough that it almost turned me off the book. He is manipulative, evil, arrogant and disgusting. My hate for him stems from his ability to manipulate those around him with smarmy words, money, and a “good name”. What he gets away with is a crime. His character’s depravity sees no bounds and I don’t think there is anything he won’t do to get his way.
Sela has a desire for revenge that gets a little sidetracked and almost derailed. She never planned on falling for the best friend. Will her desire and happiness replace her need to see the man who ruined her life, suffer? Can she leave her past behind and find love with Beck?
Beck wants his company to succeed but is struggling with the truths laid out in front of him. Does he believe his girlfriend of a few weeks over the man who is and has been his best friend for years and who is also his business partner?
Will the one man who has the power, money and influence to separate them succeed?
Even up to the very last page I wanted to hate this story, but, how can you hate something that has your undivided attention with every turn of the page? How can you turn your back on a story that sees you wanting to murder fictional characters?
Do I want Sela and Beck to get an HEA? Do I want JT to be dealt with? Does Beck deserve a kick in the ding ding too for being a douchewaffle at the end of the book? YES!!!!
Sugar Daddy left me with a thirst for violence, a desire for revenge and a need to mete out justice.

Too dark for my tastes. Sela wants revenge for the man that raped her. It is certainly a dark story given what happened to her and the horrible man that did it. I just couldn't keep reading. It was too much for me.
