My second read followed the same path of enjoyment until the final volume. I probably didn't realize when I first read it that this manga was canceled halfway through, but it's completely apparent to me now. nothing was resolved. It just suddenly... ended. One page we're still knee deep in the manga with new things developing and the next it's a ten years time skip.
To say I was disappointed is putting it mildly. This story had so much potential but it was cut short.
1. The romantic angle, which has been drawn for quite a while with a slow burn was never resolved. It was clear the author was aiming for Ryou (and I was totally shipping them), but then it threw Aya into the mix--without resolving these issues. No one got confronted, there was no development, and we're left to assume nothing happened between either of them until they met again ten fucking years later. I wasn't a happy camper.
2. The company suddenly disbands. Seriously? Why? Okay, the prez had to take care of his wife. But she's been in a coma for YEARS and he managed both. Nothing has actually changed aside for the fact she was awake for a short few weeks. I don't get it.
3. Aya's cousin was literally a cameo?? What?? It's obvious there was supposed to be a story there.
4. There was no confrontation between Aya and Ryou! Throughout the whole series, I felt like Aya didn't quite understand how much Ryou loves him, even though Ryou clearly knows how much Aya loves him and understands him perfectly. I kind of wanted to see the explosion where Ryou will tell Aya that he's dumb for not realizing Ryou always considered him to be his older brother.
5. They just appear in front of her ten years later? seriously?...
6. So nothing actually happened with Yoko? Her state remains the same as the story started by the end of it. That kind of sucks.
7. We didn't get to see Ryou become a true actor!! We keep meeting the little girl who is Ryou's star power, but she is always unleashed when he is out of it, almost as if he can't bring her out by himself. I kept waiting for the moment he would be able to summon his wings all on his own, the same way Aya or his mother do, but that never came. THIS is the biggest indication the story was cut halfway through. Ryou had far more to learn...
And more things that were left unresolved! I was honestly so sad to realize this story never had a shot of reaching its full potential...
(I've re-read the entire manga in a couple of days.)
