Notes on the Campaign between Prussia and Austria in 1866 provides a short and precise account of the Austro-Prussian, or Seven Weeks' War. Organised into six main parts, the authors describe the outbreak of war, mobilisation and initial manoeuvres of the contending armies, the course and result of each of the numerous battles and actions of the campaign, as well as providing some interesting comments on the tactics and weapons of the Austrian and Prussian units. This study, originally published in 1897, was written with the young army officer in mind. For each battle or action, the authors provide a set of notes arranged under the following headings:- Geography; Topography; Preliminaries; Forces engaged; Course of the action or battle; Losses; Result; thus making this little study ideal for anyone who requires a quick ready-reference to the many actions fought in 1866.
Apart from their narrative, the authors also supply a number of interesting sections in parts V and VI, which include comments on the campaign by various military commentators, a chronology, a very useful 'Special Features', which lists 'interesting tactical situations', and notes on the tactics used at some of the battles. This edition also features a large folding sheet of maps, showing the theatre of war, and the Battle of Koniggratz.
